Recollective Inc. is an Ottawa, Canada based rapidly growing global enterprise software company that builds and supports Recollective, a cloud-based business insights platform. Recollective serves the rapidly growing market research industry and is used by over a thousand organizations worldwide to engage communities of customers, employees, and others online to optimize business strategy and execution. Recollective continues to grow at a rate in excess of 60% and is strongly profitable.

The Recollective platform offers powerful qualitative research capabilities through an easy to use, intuitive and brandable interface. Our customers use it as a fully customizable do-it-yourself (DIY) solution or implement it with the support of our growing network of global service partners.

Recollective has developed a People Culture that we are particularly proud of. We have high expectations but reward people based on their performance and give them the support they need to learn and grow in an environment built on trust and inclusivity. Our team is currently comprised of about 75 people and growing weekly. The majority of our team is in Ottawa, followed by the US and then UK. We also have individuals in other parts of Canada, as well as globally.

At this time we do not have a formalized Talent group but we recognize the need as we continue to grow the size and geographic diversity of our team. We are looking for the right person to lead the development of this strategic group.

Scope of Position

Reporting to the CEO, the VP Human Resources will be responsible for providing expert strategic advice on all matters related to talent, enhancing and cultivating the culture of the organization that attracts, motivates and retains the firm’s human capital. This will include guiding and supporting the organization on all HR matters to meet its strategic objectives and goals for growth and profitability.

The VP Human Resources will assume responsibility for all human capital strategies, plans and policies to position the firm as a “Best in Class” employer of choice. They will build a Talent team that is responsible for recruiting, organizational and performance management, compensation, benefits strategy and implementation as well as employee relations.

Functional Tasks

Key responsibilities of the role:

  • Partner with the senior leadership team to identify and address the critical HR needs of the organization and achieve an effective long range HR strategy.
  • Establish benchmarks for organizational effectiveness, employee performance, training and career development, health and benefits, employee relations.
  • Lead the development of, effectively manage and integrate HR policies and programs including performance reviews, succession planning, career development, performance management, goal setting and reviews, training and mentoring, employee benefits, employee handbook etc.
  • Work with the senior leadership team to establish compensation plans.
  • Work with the CEO and other senior leaders to define and effectively communicate and constantly reinforce organizational values to drive culture of service, professionalism and performance excellence
  • Develop recruitment and retention strategies to attract and retain top talent
  • Manage employee recognition and awards programs
  • Effectively lead a Talent team to achieve the objectives of the company

Competency Profile

The ideal candidate will be an effective communicator who has experience working as a senior talent advisor supporting a leadership team to drive effective HR strategies. The successful candidate will have exceptionally strong interpersonal skills, demonstrate an ability to work well with senior leaders as well as direct reports and employees in the company at all levels. They should be able to clearly articulate the key points of an argument persuasively but at the same time be open to feedback and other points of view.

In addition, the ideal candidate will have subject matter expertise in all human resources disciplines and specific experience in compensation management, recruitment and performance management. They will be able to demonstrate how they maintain and expand their technical knowledge. They will be results oriented and fit into a high-performance culture.

Preferred Experience / Education

The following indicates specific academic and functional experience/qualifications that are important to the successful achievement of the identified responsibilities and performance deliverables:

  • At minimum a bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • 8+ years of broad-based and progressive experience in a general human resources leadership role
  • Experience in communicating and presenting progressive HR strategies and plans to senior management. Ability to support ideas and plans with appropriate facts and data.
  • Recognized for abilities to manage significant change of corporate cultures
  • Proven leadership and management skills with a knowledge of current industry best-practices
  • Highly self-motivated with a bias towards action over planning
  • Results orientation and a drive to succeed
  • Able to influence others and effect change of direction, while keeping participants fully engaged
  • Must be capable of interfacing effectively at all levels of the organization
